Robbery suspect shoots self in scrotum

The Ogun State Police Command has paraded a 26-year-old man, Sola
Oloyede, who allegedly shot himself in the scrotum, while attempting to bring out a locally-made pistol during a robbery operation.

The state Commissioner of Police, Nicholas Nkemdeme, who paraded Oloyede along with other 24 suspects, onTuesday in Abeokuta, the state capital said the robbery suspect was arrested following a tip-off by the management of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Idi-Aba, Abeokuta. Nkemdeme, who also disclosed that three other members of Oloyede’s gang had been apprehended, added that the suspects would soon be charged to court.

In a related development, 55 bags of weeds suspected to be Marijauna were also seized by men of the state command. On how the command recovered the illicit weed, Nkemdeme said a Toyota Hilux pick-up van, which conveyed the bags of the ‘Indian hemp’ was involved in an accident at Ilepa village, in Ifo Local Government Area of the state, along Abeokuta-Lagos expressway last week.

His words: “After the incident, a team of policemen from Ifo division, who acted on a tip-off, raced to the scene and recovered the bags of weeds from the vehicle marked Lagos BJ 958 KSF.’’ Although the Police Commissioner said the driver of the vehicle had disappeared before the arrival of the police team from Ifo, he assured that his command had intensified efforts to arrest the unidentified driver.
Also paraded were three suspected armed robbers, who specialized in robbing passengers at gunpoint in Ota and Idiroko areas of the state.

Rifles, live ammunition, charms, mobile phones and cash, among other stolen items, were recovered from the various suspects. While restating the command’s readiness to fight crimes in the state, he appealed to members of the public to assist the police with useful information.
