RUN, not a reformatory – Adeboye

The Visitor to Redeemer’s University, Redemption City, Ogun State, Dr. Enoch Adeboye, is not known to be a tough talker. He is gentle and humble. But the man of God on Saturday almost lost his cool while addressing parents who graced the 4th convocation of the university.

His grouse with some of them, according to him, is their penchant for seeking his help to intervene on issues of discipline and untoward behaviour of their children punished by the university.

According to him, some of them are in the habit of wanting him to help their children to escape punishment meted out to them by the authorities of the university.

“I feel pained anytime that I hear that a student of this university was asked to go because with all the things that are being done here, I don’t expect any student to go wayward. What I expect is that a student who enters here should pass out a better individual.

“This university is a missionary university; it was established to preach the gospel and I expect any student that is admitted here to leave better than he came in.

“Let me say that I will never intervene in the affairs of this university. I’ve never done so and the pioneer vice-chancellor and the institution’s authorities can testify to this. This university is not a reformatory, so any child that has become irredeemable should not be brought here. This university is established to produce godly leaders and people that will change our nation and the world for good,”he said.

Adeboye also told the 490 graduating students to work hard at creating jobs for themselves after graduation.

This, he said, they could do by shunning wasteful spending on frivolities.

“Instead of buying those high shoes, you can buy blocks,” he said.

The revered man of God also expressed his determination to ensure that the university relocated to its permanent site before the next convocation.

“I know that by the grace of God, I will attend the next convocation at the permanent site in Ede,” he said.
