Ruthless Falcons in deluge of goals, Beat Namibia 7-0

Super Falcons Sunday evening whitewashed Namibia’s national women team ,Gladiators, 7-0 in an Olympic qualifier first leg in the National Stadium, Abuja. The African Champions, from the blast of the whistle, were in control of proceedings on the field with three of the players scoring brace in the one sided game.

Desire Oparanozie opened the flood gate of the goals with her 8th minute strike to put the Falcons on the lead. Russia-based Emuje Ojbiabveha quickly followed Oparanozie’s lead in the 10th minute to make it 2 for the African Women Championship (AWC) title holders. Africa’s Woman Footballer of the year, Perpetua Nkwocha, registered her presence in the 13th minute with her blistering shot that caught the Namibian goal keeper napping to make it a four for Nigeria, while Emueje added another goal in the 26th minute.

As the match progressed, the hapless Namibian girls industriously tried to match the tempo of their hosts, who were having a field day in their ball possession. Sweden-based Nkwocha slotted in another neat goal in the 39th minute to be quickly followed by Desire in the 43rd minute. At the resumption of the second half, Falcons continued their dominance of the game and in the 51 minute another Sweden-based player, diminutive Rita Chikwelu aka (akpantu), volleyed home a powerful shot to successfully wind up the proceedings at the Abuja Stadium.

Falcons’ victory over the Namibians proved to be an icing on the cake for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) who have been basking in the glory of the Superlative wins of the male national teams,Super Eagles, handled by Coach Samson Siasia in the Nations Cup qualifiers, and the Dream Team under the care of Coach Austin Eguavoen their Olympic qualifiers matches respectively.

Meanwhile, Falcons’ Coach, Uche Eucharia, expressed delight with the scoring form of the players, promising to keep improving on the team’s performance for subsequent qualifiying matches.

Namibian Coach, Jacqueline Shipang, dazed by the score line admitted that he was building a team for the future, pointing out that his girls were all secondary school pupils. Nigeria would be travelling to Namibia in a fortnight for the second leg of the encounter.
