Senate, Reps sets up constitution review committee

Sequel to the Senate agenda as read by  its  president, David Mark, while welcoming his colleagues from a six-week recess  on Tuesday that   constitution amendment remained  one of the top priorities of the seventh Senate, a 47-man  Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution   had been constituted.

Members, who cut across party lines, were drawn from  each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Each of the six geo-political zones was equally represented with a member, while there are  three members with special interest.

The members are:  Ike Ekweremadu as  chairman, Uche Chukwumerije, Bello Mohammed Tukur, Chris Ngige, Ita Enang, Adbul Ningi Ahmed, Heineken Lokpobiri, Barnabas Gemade, Ahmed Zannahi, Victor Ndoma Egba, James Ebiowou Manager, Christopher Nwankwo, Odion Ugbesia, Anthony Adeniyi, Ayogu Eze, Joshua Lidani, Chris Anyanwu, Abdulaziz Usman, Yussuf  Dati Baba-Ahmed, Bello Hayatu  Gwarzo, Abu Ibrahim, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Smart Adeyemi, Mohammed Shaaba Lafiangi, Ganiyu Solomon, Suleiman Adokwe, Dahiru Kuta and Adegbenga Sefiu Kaka.

Others are  Boluwaji Kunlere, Sola Adeyeye, Olufemi Lanlehin, Joshua Dariye, Magnus Abe, Umaru  Dahiru, Abubakar Tutare Umar, Alkali Jajere, Ahmed Rufai  Sani, Philip Aduda, Nkechi Nwaogu, Helen Esuene, Nenadi Usman, Oluremi Tinubu, Zaynab Kure, Aisha Alhassan, George Akume, Ayoola Agboola and Mohammed Saleh.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives, on Wednesday, constituted an ad hoc committee on the review of the 1999 constitution. The speaker, Aminu Tambuwal, who made the announcement at the plenary session, said that membership of the committee cut across the 36 states and the FCT.

Tambuwal said that members of the leadership of the House were automatic members of the committee.
