Senator Rejects Certificate Forgery Allegation
Headlines, Legislature, Senate Friday, July 15th, 2011Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District in the Senate, Senator Domingo Obende, has said those accusing him of certificate forgery and lack of the requisite qualifications to contest senatorial election were merely propagating falsehood.
He said in a press statement made available to newsmen in Abuja Thursday that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), having failed to win the sympathy of the people at the grassroots, have now resorted to propaganda to whip up sentiments.
Obende, who defeated Senator Yisa Buraimo in the last senatorial election, said the PDP was a bad loser, as evident in the desperation to smear his name and educational records.
He said: “These cases are presently in the law courts and our lawyers are responding adequately to these spurious allegations”, stressing however that the judiciary should take note of “the extra-judicial methods our accusers have adopted to vilify us in the media while these cases are pending in the courts”.
While expressing absolute confidence in the judiciary, Obende said he would not join his accusers who, he said, “are yet to come to terms with their abysmal loss in the April 2011 polls as a result of their total rejection by the good people of Edo North, owing to their poor performance in office for many years”.
