Siasia unleashes 2 Moses’ against Egypt

Coach Samson Siasia will look to the inventiveness of the duo of Victor Moses and Moses Simon to unlock the defence of Egypt in today’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game in Kaduna. GETTING READY … Super Eagles duo, Victor Moses (l) and Obi Mikel . Both players have looked sharp in attack, posting important contributions with eye-catching play in training. While the duo was expected to challenge for a starting spot on the left of the attack, it seems as though Siasia has now settled to play both of them in the crunch Afcon qualifying bout. During Wednesday’s training session, West Ham United’s Moses was played in the role behind top striker Odion Ighalo, while Simon was left to work through the wings. Their speed and creativity will be key to troubling the Pharaohs and allowing Ighalo to wreak havoc at will. The coach tried out Kelechi Iheanacho in the creative midfield role, but it seemed the Manchester City man has not impressed thus far, the reason why he has preferred Moses.

On the right wing, Siasia has kept faith with former team captain Ahmed Musa who has kept up the pace so far. In central midfield, John Obi Mikel and Oghenekaro Etebo have been playing together and it seems they will keep their place. Mikel seemed to be the deeper lying of the two. However, one situation at training on Wednesday saw them exposed after they both went forward leaving the opposing team to launch a quick counter attack against the central defensive duo of Godfrey Oboabona and Efe Ambrose. Azubuike Okechukwu is also in contention for the central midfield role. He has been tipped to support Mikel in the absence of Ogenyi Onazi, who is suspended for the first game but should be back for the Alexandria encounter. The big surprise that is likely to take place is in the full-back positions where Stanley Amuzie and Mathew Etim have been holding their own.
