SSS secure release of two foreign hostages
Latest Politics Friday, February 11th, 2011HE State Security Service, SSS have secured the release yesterday of two foreign hostages, Messrs Lakota Oleksandr, a Ukrainian and Panagotis Chiotis, a Greek. They were kidnapped on January 26 this year in a vessel named , Persea, where they work as Captain and Chief Engineer respectively.
Briefing on the development, the new Director SSS in Rivers state, Mr Olusegun Agbaje said they were taken hostage around 15 nautical miles off fairway Buoy, Bonny water on their way to Onne, Rivers state. According to him, their abductors fled with them to a forest in the creek.
The SSS boss said while the hostages were in the custody of their abductors the security body traced their whereabouts and then mounted severe pressure on the kidnappers for their release. “The efforts of the service paid off when the abductors agreed to release the victims to the Service”, he said.
