New Nigerian Politics: – March 29, 2016 – The Super Eagles crashed out of the 2017 AFCON tournament qualifications with a 1-0 loss to Egypt in the coastal city of Alexandra, today. The lone goal scored by Ramadan Sobhy in the 65th minute, sealed the three-time African Champion’s fate. With still one game left against Tanzania which has one point, Nigeria can only gain a maximum of 5 points against Egypt’s 7 points with one game left as well.
With the sudden departure of coach Sunday Oliseh just four weeks to the all important home and away fixtures against the Pharaohs, Nigeria Football Federation has its work cut out in finding a lasting solution to the dwindling fortunes of the Super Eagles. It will be recalled that Chad withdrew earlier this week from the qualifications citing poor finances, leaving the group with three teams. This is the second consecutive tournament the Super Eagles will miss after failing to reach the finals in Equatorial Guinea to defend its title in the 2015 AFCON. wp_posts
