WARRI—A suspected ritualist was lynched yesterday at Otukuku in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State by an irate mob after a decomposing corpse was found under a bridge, suspected to be a hideout for ritualists. Two other members of the gang were lucky as they escaped from the mob.
An eyewitness told Vanguard that “Due to the past happenings in the area (Otukuku bridge), people were suspicious of movement of people feigning madness under the bridge. You know that about nine years ago or so, ritualists committed a lot of atrocities under this bridge”.
“Well, a motor cyclist went to toilet around the area this evening and saw three men who were pretending to be mad men, this is how they deceive people, and he raised alarm, which attracted youths in the area.
“The youths came to apprehend them and found a decomposing corpse and application forms for admission, suspected to belong to their victims, which littered the place.
“Two of the ritualists escaped, but one was caught. He was butchered and set ablaze”, he disclosed.
People later thronged the area to catch a glimpse of the suspected ritualist that was set ablaze.
When Vanguard visited the area, his corpse was still burning and fire had spread to a nearby bush and under the bridge, while passport photographs and forms of suspected victims were also recovered.
