The Super Eagles are caught in a tense situation in Libya ahead of their AFCON 2025 Qualifier second-leg match. After securing a 1-0 victory against Libya in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on October 11, the teams were set to face off again in Benina for their fourth Group D clash.
Upon arrival in Libya on October 13, the team’s chartered flight, originally bound for Benghazi, was suddenly diverted to Al Abraq, over two hours away. Things took a frustrating turn when it was revealed that Libyan airport officials, under directives from higher authorities, delayed the Super Eagles for over three hours, locking the gates and preventing the team from entering. To make matters worse, no officials from the Libyan FA were present at the airport to welcome or assist the Nigerian team.
The NFF, facing growing frustration, scrambled to arrange road transport for the players and officials. Videos released by the NFF show the Super Eagles locked out of the airport, trying to resolve the issue. Many believe this is a calculated attempt by Libyan authorities to tire out the Super Eagles ahead of the crucial match.
