Tinubu asks editors to support anti-corruption fight (When will you turn in yourself for your own corruption?)

Former Governor of Lagos State and National leader,  All progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has challenged  editors in the country to support the fight against corruption in the country.

He also called on them to support the presidential media aides so as to make their jobs less challenging.

Tinubu, who was represented by Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomole, said this during the Nigerian Guild of Editors’ reception for Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu in Abuja on Friday night.

Adesina and Shehu, who are both former presidents of the NGE, were recently appointed special adviser and senior special assistant, media and publicity respectively to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Tinubu, who was the chairman on the occasion, said the two media aides needed the guild’s support to make their jobs easier.

“As spokesmen for the President, they have a huge task but the men and women (editors)  in this hall have what it takes to make their job less challenging,” he added.

Tinubu urged editors to keep fighting corruption, stressing that they should keep fighting until the war against corruption was won.

“For me, the media are the best fighters. If you don’t fight, the society will not grow.  Garba,  keep fighting, Adesina, keep fighting, editors, keep fighting until the war against corruption is won; until Nigeria is free from insurgency and until we create a country that is not oil-dependent,” he said.

Oshiomole, in his own personal opinion, said there was no fight without casualties, noting that past administrations fought the war but without casualties.

He said,  “We must guide this democracy, it is not possible to fight a war without casualties. It is time to get organised and deal with the issue (corruption).”

The acting NGE President, Mr Garba Muhammad, said the two media aides were among the “most exceptional gentlemen that the media profession has ever produced.”
