Traffic controller narrowly escapes death •As truck crushes commercial motorcyclist

A traffic warden, Mr. Mark Oguche, (Inspector) narrowly escaped death by the whiskers, following a mob attack by some irate commercial motorcyclists over the death of one of their members in Minna, the capital city of Niger State.

The incident that occurred along the busy Shiroro road T-junction on the outskirt of the city , led to the death of the commercial motorcyclist otherwise known as “Okada rider” as he was crushed to death by a truck on the fleet of a construction company in the state (names withheld).

Sunday Tribune further gathered that the trouble began when , the traffic warden had allegedly signaled to the unfortunate Okada rider to match his break, while giving the go-ahead order for the truck to pass, but the commercial motorcyclist , who was on a top speed and had lost control of the motorbike after which he allegedly entered the road.

It was further learnt that the Okada man came face-to-face with the truck that was already on high speed from the adjacent direction and thereby had head-on collision with the motorcyclist, whose head was crushed on the spot.

However, seeing that one of their own was lying lifeless, in a pool of his own blood, and with his head crushed, passers-by soon started gathering, including other commercial motorcyclists who immediately went after the traffic warden for allegedly causing the death of their member.

While the number of the commercial motorcyclists was increasing by the seconds and charging towards the traffic warden, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) whose state office was not too far from the scene of the accident was quickly alerted.

An inside police source informed the Sunday Tribune that the timely intervention of the FRSC operatives saved the traffic warden from being lynched as the mob had torn his uniform into shreds and was throwing jab at him.
