Twist in Ekweremadu’s UK case: Visa letter for organ donor emerges

Ike Ekweremadu and Nwanneka Ekweremadu

A letter by Senator Ike Ekweremadu requesting British visa for a 15 year-old organ donor for his daughter, has emerged.

The letter written 28 December 2021 expressly stated that the boy will be donating kidney to his daughter Sonia.

“David and Sonia will be at the Royal Free Hospital London and I will be providing the necessary funding”, the letter read.

Identity of Ekweremadu’s kidney donor revealed in visa letter Since the boy was admitted to the UK on the strength of the letter, it was clear the British High Commission was complicit in the whole matter.

The only snag is that the would-be-donor is under-aged, creating suspicions.

According to reports, the Metropolitan Police began investigating the case in May this year, before Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice were arrested, along with the boy-donor at Heathrow Airport on Tuesday.

They were on their way to Turkey and no longer the Royal Free Hospital London.

Police were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery laws last month.

A potential charge against Ekweremadu was that £20,000 was found on him on at the time of his arrest, according to prosecutors.

This is against the international money laundering law, which states that no one should physically carry more than $10,000 at a time.

The child is now under the care of safeguarding authorities and the Metropolitan Police, officials say.

Ekweremadu, 60 and his accountant wife Beatrice, 55, are charged with conspiracy to arrange or facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.
