Senator Andy Uba, the Anambra State candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 6 gubernatorial election, received the endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday.

Uba was led to the Aso Villa, Abuja, by the Chairman, Caretaker and Convention Planning Committee of the party and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni. They were accompanied by: Governors Gboyega Oyetola (Osun State), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Hope Uzodimma (Imo) and Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos). Others are: Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and Minister for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, George Akume.

“I am happy to formally welcome you. I certainly wish you the best of luck. I’m anxious for your success, and will closely follow,” Buhari said.

Fielding questions after their closed-door meeting, Buni told newsmen that the APC daily receives new entrants from Anambra State, citing the recent decamping of Senators Stella Oduah and Joy Emodi.

“Anambra is ripe for us and we will work together for victory,” he said, adding: “Many people are crossing over to APC, following our gubernatorial primaries. That attests to Mr. President’s performance, especially when you see the infrastructure he is putting in place across the country, especially in the South East. So, you can see for yourself that APC is accepted in Anambra State. And by the grace of God, we are going to win the election.”

In his remarks, Uzodimma, who is the Chairman of the Campaign Council, assured Buhari that the message of the party would be taken to the people of Anambra, “which will translate to victory for us in November.”

He commended Buhari for making the job easier, saying, “because of the integrity and honour you have in Nigeria, your name opens doors for us, and lots of people come into our party today because of it.”

Uba insisted there was no rift between him and his brothers who have pitched tent with the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

MEANWHILE, the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, launched the electronic membership registration of members and Continuous Voter Registration exercise in Anambra State, with a view to boosting the numerical strength of members and supporters ahead of the governorship election.

In attendance were Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki; his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde; National Chairman of the Val Ozigbo Governorship Campaign Council and Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu; Anambra State governorship candidate, Val Ozigbo; and Vice Presidential candidate of the party in 2019, Peter Obi.
