Veteran journalist, Amakiri, dies in PH

Publisher, Beacon newspaper, a provincial newspaper in Rivers State, Mr. Meneri Amakiri, has passed on in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Sunday Vanguard gathered that the sad incident occured in the early hours of  Saturday.

The late Amakiri came to the limelight as a journalist working for the Observer when the first military administrator of old Rivers State Alfred Diete Spiff, who is now a traditional ruler, allegedly ordered that his hair be shaved because of an alleged ‘embarrasing’ story he wrote against Spiff’s government on a day the military governor was marking his birthday.

The late Amakiri ran a very thriving provincial newspaper where he was the Editor in Chief until his death.
