Waziri bags doctorate degree award
Latest Politics Tuesday, January 25th, 2011As a mark of recognition and appreciation of her sterling roles in combating the menace of economic and financial crimes in Nigeria, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mrs. Farida Waziri, has been nominated for an award of an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (D.Sc) by the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State.
The Registrar and Secretary to Senate of the university, Dr. B.N. Adeniji, in a letter conveying the nomination of the award to Waziri said the university decided to honour her with the prestigious degree “in recognition and appreciation of your achievements and contributions to crime fighting in our society. You have given vision, sustainable direction and leadership to human society. Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, has followed with keen interest and is delighted with your numerous and outstanding contributions to the society. Our university shall be privileged to identify and associate with your outstanding impacts.”
Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, is one of the three universities of agriculture in Nigeria. It is the only one located in the South-east and South-south geopolitical zones of the country. It was conceived as a vehicle for the scientific transformation of Nigerian agriculture and the attainment of the major goals of Nigerian National Agricultural Policy, anchored on self-sufficiency in food and fibre.
Waziri’s nomination for the doctorate degree by the university is a further reinforcement of her leadership initiatives in her chosen career of crime fighting. The degree would be conferred on her at the fourth convocation ceremony of the university slated for February 5.
Since her appointment as the EFCC Chairman, Waziri has been receiving immense national and international appreciation.
This has manifested in a harvest of laurels for her. The awards have all been credible ways of affirming support for the nation’s anti-graft war. Some of them are: Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic, OFR, by the Federal Government of Nigeria; An Award of Excellence in recognition of her superlative performance as an anti-corruption czar by the Mutual Unions of Tivs in America, MUTA; Nigeria Arise Merit Awards by Nigerians in the United Kingdom in concert with Africa’s leading global media satellite broadcast organisation, BEN Television and Nigeria Arise Initiative. She has also been named as the Most Outstanding Female Public Servant in the prestigious Nigerian Golden Amazons Award organised by the National Council of Women Society, NCWS.
