We’re taking right steps to greatness –Oduah
Aviation, Latest Politics Tuesday, September 11th, 2012The Minister of Aviation, Mrs. Stella Oduah, has said that steps being taken to reform the nation’s aviation sector are aimed at moving it to greatness.
A statement by the Ethiopian Airlines on Tuesday quoted the minister as saying this during the maiden flight of Ethiopian Airline’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja.
The minister, who was represented at the ceremony by an official of the Department of Air Transport Management, Mr. Maishanu Ibrahim, said reforming the sector was a commitment that would make the country very proud in the nearest future.
She said, “We are happy with the management of Ethiopian Airlines for this achievement, for being the first African country to take delivery of the new Boeing 787. It is not too much for Nigeria to do but we have to take the right step and that is exactly what the minister is doing.”
The Airline’s Manager in Abuja, Mr. Mulugeta Zewdu, also said that Abuja had become one of the few airports in the world to receive the Dreamliner aircraft, ahead of many major destinations in the Americas, Europe or Asia.
Zewdu stated, “Abuja is part of Ethiopian Airlines extensive network in Africa and was chosen as one of the first destinations for the Dreamliner because it is the political capital of one of Africa’s most important countries and hosts the headquarters of the Economic Community of West African States and the regional seat of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries.
“The Dreamliner offers passengers unmatched on-board comfort with greatly reduced noise, higher ceilings, biggest windows in the sky, higher humidity and unique lighting. As Africa’s flagship carrier, Ethiopian is committed to provide its esteemed passengers from Abuja and elsewhere the best possible travel experience with the newest fleet as well as five star service delivery.”
Ethiopian is the first airline outside Japan to operate the Dreamliner, the most technologically advanced commercial aircraft in the world.
