We have received 110,000 DDC Machines – Jega
Latest Politics Tuesday, January 11th, 2011
The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attajiru Jega has announced that the Commission has received and deployed 110,000 Direct Data Capture machines as at Tuesday.
He said this in an interview with the Nigeria Television Authority monitored in Abuja.
Jega said the supply and deployment of the equipment was on a “24 hours continuous” basis.
He stressed that it was not correct to say that the entire registration exercise was at risk.
According to him, “Unlike what I was reading in the papers, we have received about 110,000 Direct Data Capture machines.
“It is not true that the voters’ registration exercise is under threat.”
In a telephone interview with our correspondent on the issue, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC chairman, Mr. Kayode Idowu said figures ought to be treated as sacred.
He said “Like my Chairman said, we have received 110 machines as at today (Tuesday) and delivery is still ongoing.
“None of the contractors has defaulted because the contract we signed was time specific defaulting has serious consequences.”
