We will improve on pilgrimages -Jonathan
Latest Politics Thursday, May 19th, 2011PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has expressed government’s decision to institutionalise the leadership of federal delegations to all pilgrimages, saying that it was to build institutional memory and establish an acceptable standard of operations.
He said this when he received the report of the Federal Government’s delegation for the 2010 Christian pilgrimage to Israel, at the State House, Abuja, on Thursday.
President Jonathan noted the significant increase of pilgrims to Israel from 13,000 in 2009 to 20,000 in 2010, while he expressed delight that there were no incidents of absconding by pilgrims.
Earlier, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, leader of the delegation and chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), had requested the signing of a BASA with Israel, to reduce flight time and enable Nigerian airlines to participate in the airlift of pilgrims.
