Why aggrieved PDP members can’t leave – Sekibo
Party Politics, Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) Wednesday, March 21st, 2012Action Congress of Nigeria’s candidate for Rivers State governorship election, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, has said some members of the Peoples Democratic Party are stranded in the ruling party.
Sekibo observed that those willing to leave the ruling party could not do so for fear of being punished by the PDP.
The former Minister of Transport, who spoke during a meeting with ACN members in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, was worried that a political party could punish its members for having different opinions on how things should be done.
Sekibo, who contested in the April 2011 governorship election, explained that anybody had the right to join and leave a political party in a democratic dispensation.
He noted that most of the PDP members in the state were suffering in silence, adding that some of them lacked the courage to leave the ruling party and join the ACN.
He said, “Some of my friends, who are still in the PDP, are willing to join the ACN. Each time they attend a meeting in my house, they complain bitterly about what they are passing through in the PDP.”
“In fact, they are suffering there, but cannot leave due to fear.”
