Why Akwa Ibom First Lady Celebrated Birthday in Lagos

On Saturday June 11, 2011 at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos, our (Akwa Ibom)
first lady, Chief (Dr.) Mrs. Unoma Ekaette Akpabio, as I could see from the media,
looked very elegant and together with her twin-brother, celebrated their 40th
Birthday Anniversary. Many Akwa Ibom people are discussing this matter and
insisting that there was no justification for taking the celebration to Lagos where
only selected Akwa Ibomites were entertained.

VANGUARD newspaper of Friday June 17, 2011 (page 31) writing on the above
headline reported thus: “Akwa Ibom state must have been a state without the head
and the limbs last Saturday (June 11. 2011) as the crust of the cabinet including
the Governor, Deputy Governor, SSG, LG Chairmen, party stalwarts and other
eminent personalities of the state converged on Lagos at the Eko Hotel and Suites
to celebrate the 40th birthday of the Governor’s wife, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio
and her twin brother, Mr. Ejike”. It continued – that one of the reasons for choosing
Lagos for the celeberation was because “her childred were writing examination”.
The story ended thus: “She chose to celebrate at Eko Hotel in Lagos because
there was no event centre in Uyo or anywhere else in Akwa Ibom that could match
her picture of glitzy outing to fulfil her fantasy of a dreamy birthday bash”.

The above reports do not augur or speak well for Akwa Ibom first family and
government. The report that there is no good event centre in Akwa Ibom
contradicts the facts on ground because we have Le’Meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf
Resort that has more facilities than the Eko Hotel and Suites; and not only that,
both hotels are managed by the same foreign partners. What about the N33bn
Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Centre the governor said he has commissioned the
first phase? The report about the children taking their examination confirms that
the Akwa Ibom first family does not live in Akwa Ibom but outside the State just
like most members of the Akwa Ibom cabinet and some Local Government
Chairmen who have their families in Lagos or Calabar or Abuja and even outside
the country.

The underlining fact remains that Akwa Ibom which was adjudged the most
peaceful in the past has now turned to a den where kidnapping, insecurity and
other criminalities are order of the day. We require prayers that must come from
the populace and not from our so-called men of God because God does not hear
them any longer. These men of God that cannot be exhaustively enumerated here
include the national president of the youth wing of PFN and the Akwa Ibom State
CAN chairman; most of them falsely confess that Akwa Ibom is secured yet they
move with battalion of mobile police officers as personal security details?  They
cannot allow Angels to guide them because they are hypocritics and beneficiaries
of filthy lucres.
