The Benue State government has said that the setting up of a committee for the disbursement of the Paris Club refund is to ensure transparency and carry along all stakeholders in the process.
The state government on Thursday had confirmed the receipt of the sum of N14.9 billion as the final tranche of the Paris Club refund from the Federal Government.

Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Benue State Governor, Terver Akase, who stated this while responding to concerns raised on the issue by some persons, explained why the governor had set up a committee for the disbursement of the fund.
Akase said Governor Samuel Ortom’s decision to include the Benue State chapters of Nigerian Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, and the Nigerian Union of Pensioners in the Engineer Benson Abounu Committee was to comply with the administration’s policy of involving state workers in all matters affecting them.
“The committee’s job is to work out modalities to ensure that the various segments of the state workforce and retirees are not short-changed in disbursement of the funds,” Akase explained.
The CPS acknowledged commendations Governor Samuel Ortom has received following the public disclosure of the Paris Club refund, giving assurance that the governor would continue to prioritise the interest of the people.
