By Adekunle DadaRivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and three other Peoples Democratic Party governors have jetted out to Spain amid the crisis rocking the main opposition party. The other governors include, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Samuel Ortom (Benue) The four Governors posed for a photograph at the International Airport, Omagwa in Ikwerre Local Government Area early on Saturday morning before jetting out to Spain in a private jet. According to PUNCH, a top party chieftain in the state who pleaded anonymity confirmed the trip on Saturday. He said, “Yes, it is true. They left for Spain early Saturday morning, but I can’t say the reason for the trip.” WITHIN NIGERIA recall that Wike had addressed a live media chat on Friday morning at Government House, Port Harcourt, where he made fresh revelations about the PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorcha Ayu. Wike and four of his colleagues including Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who was not part of the latest trip are now known as the G5 calling for the resignation of Senator Ayu. Wike at the briefing said that they were not leaving the party, but that it would not augur well if they dump the main opposition party. The Rivers governor also at the media chat said he will not back down on his call for Ayu to step down in order to pave the way for a Southerner to succeed him as the party’s chairman. While noting that there would be no peace in the party if Ayu doesn’t resign, he said, “a situation where the PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the national chairman (Ayu) come from the same zone does not make for equity, fairness and justice.” -WITHINNIGERIA |
