Yakubu goes goal-crazy
Headlines, Soccer, Sports Sunday, December 4th, 2011
Nigeria’s Yakubu Aiyegbeni has once again proved that he is set to make a return to the Super Eagles after being left out under the tenure of sacked coach Samson Siasia.
The Yak as he is called by his admirers has taken his goals haul in the English Premiership to 10 goals this season. Yakubu scored four goals as Blackburn lifted themselves off the foot of the Premier League table with a much-needed victory over Swansea.
The Nigerian opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a superbly struck drive from the edge of the area.
Leroy Lita nodded Swansea level, but a brace of Yakubu headers either side of half-time put Rovers firmly in control.
Luke Moore fired in to give Swansea hope before Yakubu scored a penalty after Simon Vucekic was tripped.
