Headlines, State News, Zamfara Wednesday, December 26th, 2018Abiodun Nejo, Ado Ekiti
Former governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has accused the Federal Government of plotting to hide under the killings in Zamfara State by armed bandits to impose emergency rule on the state.
Fayose alleged that the ultimate goal of the planned emergency rule was to pave way for a fresh electoral process in the state so that the All Progressives Congress could field candidates for elections in the state.
The former governor, who is the Southwest Coordinator of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council, alleged that the plot was a reaction to Independent National Electoral Commission’s refusal to allow APC field candidates for 2019 general election in Zamfara State due to non-compliance with the Electoral Act.
In a statement personally signed by Fayose and made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, the former governor stated, “With emergency rule, there will only be Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state in February next year while governorship and state House of Assembly elections will be postponed till May”.

The former governor, who said “using the killings to achieve political goal is not only wicked but inhuman.” He urged the Federal Government “to admit its failure and apologise to the people of Zamfara State, who were left at the mercy of armed bandits.
“Zamfara State Governor, Abdul-aziz Yari Abubakar, should return home and stand up for his people instead of staying away and acting politically correct while his people are being killed.
“The Federal Government must be reminded that under the PDP government of Dr Goodluck Jonathan, emergency rule was declared in three states in the Northeast without dismantling democratic institutions”.
He called on well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on the APC led Federal Government to avoid jeopardising democracy in the country by going ahead with its plot to manipulate the 2019 general elections like it was done in the Ekiti and Osun States governorship elections.
