400 militants from Ondo embrace amnesty

The amnesty programme of the Federal Government got a boost in Ondo State, on Thursday, as no fewer than 400 militants from the Niger Delta region of the state surrendered their arms and ammunition and embraced the amnesty programme.
The militants, from Digbigbene AMG Lion Camp in Ese Odo Local Government Area, voluntarily surrendered a war arsenal of about 150 heavy and sophisticated weapons to the state government.
The surrendered weapons included one artillery gun, three cannon guns, 60 single barrel guns, one double barrel gun, 60 machetes, 21 locally made spears and several rounds of ammunition.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Aderotimi Adelola, who spoke on behalf of the state governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, during the handing over of the arms, commended the militants for the bold step.
He said, “we are happy that you associate yourself with government’s amnesty programme. I can assure you that from today on, you will enjoy peace in your mind, in your spirit and also, there will be development in your area, the state government is known for peace and development as you know.”
He assured the people of the coastal area of the state of a conducive living environment and empowerment in order to forestall militancy and breakdown of law and order.
