Atiku group declares support for Jonathan’s presidency
Elections 2011 Friday, April 15th, 2011The candidature of Jonathan/Sambo received a boost when a group of Atiku loyalists declared their support for the president ahead of tomorrow’s presidential election.
The group, Atiku Progressive Forum (APF), with a numerical strength of over three million members across the country, said it decided to support Jonathan/Sambo candidacy ahead of other presidential candidates based on the achievements of the president in less than one year of his reign.
According to the national chairman of the APF, Chief Joseph Onasanya, “we decided to support President Goodluck Jonathan in the upcoming presidential election because with the little time he has spent as president of Nigeria, he has delivered on his promises. Look at electricity and other infrastructural development across the nation, it shows that he really wants to deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians if given a chance.”
Chief Onasanya stated that the group has been supporting former vice-president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, since October 2005, and it was in the interest of the country that the group decided to shift ground.
“It is important to state here that the group has been independent and has never received funding from the former vice- president.”
“ He is not funding the forum but he approved the use of his name,” he said.
