APGA moves to restructure party

Leaders of All Progressives Grand Alliance on Saturday resolved to restructure APGA to reflect its status as a national party.

The resolution is part of a five-point-communiqué issued at the end of a stakeholders meeting at the GRA, Enugu residence of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu.

The communiqué called for the restructuring of the Board of Trustees, National Caucus, National Executive Council and National Working Committee, among others.

The APGA members, who came from all parts of the country, also called on the National Executive Council to organise a national convention without further delay and arrange to conduct proper congresses throughout the federation in line with the constitution of the party, which provides that convention and congresses at national, state and other levels be held at least once a year.

At the meeting, the National Chairman, Mr. Victor Umeh, warned members to desist from conducts capable of destabilising the party.

He also stressed that the late Ojukwu remained the supreme leader of the party even in death.

Bianca, wife of the ex-Biafra warlord, supported the resolution of the party and called on Umeh to commence the process of restructuring the party so that there could be peace.

She said, “No officer is greater than the party Ikemba left for the Igbo. Peace is expensive; it comes with a price. If we cannot pay the price, we cannot move this party forward.”

Justifying the need for a restructuring, the Acting State Chairman of the party in Enugu, Mr. Ikechukwu Alar, said it would produce focused and dedicated leadership committed to the welfare of the party.

Speaking through his representative and Special Adviser on Political Matters, Patrick Onuoha, the Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha said, “The meeting is crucial in moving APGA forward and making adequate preparations for future elections.”

Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State also charged members of the party to avoid sowing seeds of discord and follow the footsteps of Ojukwu.
