Appeal Court’s judgment on Akpabio vs Udodehe for tomorrow
Akwa Ibom, Elections 2011, Governors, Headlines, State News Wednesday, September 14th, 2011The Appeal Court sitting in Calabar has shifted the date for judgment on the appeal brought before it by the gubernatorial candidate of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the April 26 election in Akwa Ibom State, Senator Akpan Udodehe, challenging the decision of the lower election tribunal which validated the election of Governor Godswill Akpabio of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after dismissing the ACN petition for lack of compliance with the Electoral Act.
The new date for the Judgment is now tomorrow. The court had earlier fixed yesterday (Tuesday) for the judgment and the court room and its vicinity were filled with supporters of both the PDP and the ACN. Heavily armed security personnel were on ground to ward off any unwanted elements.
The three judges of the court were on seat and the presiding judge, Honourable Justice Jafaru Maka’ilu, announced that a short adjournment would have to be taken by the parties in the matter as the expected judgment for that day was not ready.
He gave the reason for the adjournment to be that some materials and cases sited were given to them only “yesterday,” and as such they needed to be fair and just in their considerations.
Counsel for Governor Akpabio, Chief Bayo Ojo SAN represented by Mr. Doru Akinyemi SAN spoke to newsmen after the court session, saying there was nothing to fear or be worried about the short adjournment afterall it was just 48 hours.
