April polls: EU deploys 52 observers

ABUJA – As part of its contribution towards conduct of free, fair and credible polls during the forthcoming general elections, the European Union Election Observation Mission, EOM, has deployed 52 observers to monitor the conduct of the polls across the country.

The team of  observers, which had already arrived Nigeria, are expected to be deployed across the nation beginning tomorrow, under the Long Term Observers, LTO. This means that the observers would remain in the country during and after the conduct of all the elections in April 2011.

It would be recalled that the European Union, EU, had signed a Memorandum of Understanding MoU, with the Federal Government and Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, guaranteeing freedom of movement to all EU EOM members and access to all polling stations and related sites and bodies and to all relevant information.
