DETACHMENTS of mobile policemen from neighbouring states have been deployed in Bayelsa State ahead

of today’s visit of President Goodluck Jonathan, for his political rally slated for the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, Yenagoa, in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state.

Members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) started arriving in the state on Sunday, while the number of the police checkpoints had been increased. Motorists and commuters were being subjected to thorough security checks.

Apart from the security checkpoints, the anti-bomb squad of the police is also keeping vigil at the PDP campaign venue in order to ensure the security of life and property of the visitors and the members of the PDP billed for the rally.

Contacted on the level of preparedness in terms of security, the state Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Musa, said necessary arrangements had been made at ensuring a hitch-free presidential campaign, assuring visitors and residents of their security.

Though he was silent on the number of the policemen expected from the neighbouring states, Aliyu said detachments of mobile policemen were expected, adding that necessary arrangements had been concluded at ensuring a hitch-free electioneering in the state.

“Our men, including anti-bomb squad, are working round the clock, as I am talking to you now I can assure you that the security operatives in the state are hundred per cent ready for the president,” the police commissioner said.

Speaking in the same vein, the state Commissioner for Information, Mr Nath Egba, said the visit would further demonstrate the love that the people have for President Jonathan, revealing that the government of the state had mobilised people to give President Jonathan a rousing welcome.

He said: “We will continue to celebrate the success story of President Jonathan and show to the whole world how he is loved by his people. Jonathan has the total support of the over 1.7 million population of the state.”wp_posts
