Buhari’s wife, Aisha, urges women to vote for change
Elections 2011 Thursday, April 7th, 2011WIFE of the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Hajia Aishat Buhari, has appealed to women to use their numerical strength to vote incorruptible politicians into office.
Hajia Buhari, whose husband, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, ruled Nigeria as a military head of state between 1983 and 1985, yesterday urged Nigerians to use their votes to reward politicians with impeccable record and punish corrupt ones.
She told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that “anybody accused of using public office for private appropriation before now has no place in any civilian democratic government.”
Hajia Buhari said past leaders seeking any political office in this dispensation should be accessed by their past records and the human-friendly development projects they undertook during their regime.
Her words: “Past leaders that built refineries, raised the standard of living of the people and reduced cost of livelihood for the masses should be rewarded with victories at the polls.
“Those who acquired unwholesome wealth by pillaging the national treasury and shortchanging the people must not be given another chance to worsen our lives.”
She said incorruptibility and simplicity in life style, especially of past leaders, “are some of the virtues and criteria Nigerians should look out for in this dispensation.”

She faulted some politicians who use calumny as a campaign tool against their opponents and those who accuse their co-contestants of fanaticism deliberately to dissuade voters from supporting them.
Hajia Buhari added: “The rate of poverty in the nation is alarming. Nigerians will seize this time to revert the impoverishment amid the enormous natural resources and endowments.’’
The wife of CPC’s presidential candidate said Nigeria is a great country, which, “with the right kind of leadership, will become the giant it is meant to be.”
She urged Nigerians not to be discouraged by the postponement of the elections, stressing that “women must come out en masse to vote for change for a brighter future for our children.’’
