A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday, arraigned four police officers alleged to have killed the Boko Haram leader, Mallam Mohammed, on July 30, 2009.
The policemen, who were arraigned before Justice Donaltus Okorowo are ACP J.B Abang, ACP Akeera, CSP Mohammed Ahmadu and ACP Mada Buba.
When the matter came up on Wednesday, the prosecuting counsel, R.N Ojabor, told the court that there was a similar matter which involved only one accused, Sgt. Adamu Gado, but which had similar facts, circumstances, evidences and witnesses with that of the other four accused.
He, therefore, sought the leave of the court to amend the charge initially preferred against the four to include the name of the fifth accused person.
He further told the court that their witnesses had refused to come to court because they were afraid.
Defense counsel, Paul Erokoro (SAN), did not oppose the application but asked the court to compel the witnesses to appear in court.
The trial judge, at this point, invited the counsels in the matter into his chamber.
After about 30 minutes, the court was re-convened and Justice Okorowo ordered the prosecuting counsel to come formally and that since the charge preferred against four of the accused is almost the same with the one preferred against the fifth accused, it should rather be consolidated.
He, therefore, adjourned the matter till July 19.
