Dana victim petitions presidency

One of the victims of the June 3, 2012 Dana Air plane crash at the Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos, Pastor Daniel Omowunmi, has petitioned President Goodluck Jonathan, the Senate President, Senator David Mark, House of Representatives Speaker, Honourable Aminu Tambuwal and the governor of Lagos State, Mr Babtunde Fashola, over the alleged refusal of the airline to pay him compensation for his properties destroyed when the plane crashed into them.

Omowunmi, in a petition he signed last week, accused the management of the airline of insensitivity towards his plight. He is claiming N500 million compensation for the damage done  to his properties.

According to Omowumi, his four plots of land, offices and residence were totally destroyed by the crash, even as he stated that since the not been forthcoming with his claim, urging those in authority to intervene on the matter before it was too late.

Omowunmi claimed that some of his properties, which included a six-bedroom duplex, four-bedroom bungalow and two standard warehouses located at Number 8/10, Popoola Street, Iju-Ishaga, Lagos, were completely destroyed by the crash.

He lamented that before the accident, he and his family members were living in the six-bedroom duplex while the warehouses were used for commercial purposes, adding that his staff and office occupied the four-bedroom bungalow, even as he also claimed that his four fish ponds, which were fully stocked before the crash, were destroyed.

The pastor explained in the petition that following the request to that effect by the management of the airline, on  June, 20, he, through his solicitor, forwarded a comprehensive letter of claim to the airline, but noted that since the claims were forwarded to the airline, no step has been taken to address the situation.

He divided the claims into three categories namely; property and items destroyed at N213.1million, fully stocked imported educational books at N250.5m and large quantity imported kitchen utensils for sale in Nigeria at N40 million.

After the receipt of his letter of claim according to him, a meeting was held between him and the Dana Air management where he was offered the sum of N500, 000, which he described as insulting and which made him to  reject it.
