Eagles drop S/Africa For Ghana •International friendly

NIGERIA is certain to play Ghana on August 9 after top players turned down a proposal to fly to South Africa just days before the start of the European season.
NFF officials were considering offers from both the two countries for a friendly game during that FIFA window, but were compelled to plump for the Ghana friendly after consultation with the players and coach.
“The players were not comfortable with making the long trip from Europe to the south of Africa and back just days before the start of a new season,” a top NFF official said.
“It is easier for them to play in Europe, and then return to their clubs.
“We had to listen to them so it is just a matter of concluding the arrangements with Ghana.”
Those arrangements include securing a venue for the game, something both parties expect to be done in the coming week.
Both countries share a deep rivalry, and the last time they met in a friendly in London, Ghana came out 4-1 winners, a result that cost Austin Eguavoen his job as head coach and ushered in German Berti Vogts.
