Ex-Perm Sec forfeits 47 cars to Federal Government

FORMER Permanent Secretary in the Power Ministry, Ambassador Godknows Igali, has forfeited 47 brand new Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to the Federal Government.

The revelation was contained in a report submitted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the Senate Committee on Financial Crimes and Anti-Corruptionon Wednesday.

The Commmittee had earlier received the EFCC in audience but asked its management to submit further details.

According to the report, the vehicles were seized at the Utako, Abuja residence of the former Permanent Secretary.

The former Permanent Secretary is currently undergoing investigations by the anti-graft agency over alleged corrupt practices.

Alsoon Wednesday, the Senate Committee kicked against a situation whereby a governor made donation of building and Furniture to EFCC. The unnamed governor was said to have by unnamed made the donation to

the anti-graft agency, a situation decried by Senator Dino Melaye as uncalled for.

The Senator, who raised the issue at theWednesday’sbudget defence session, said he was dissatisfied that some governors were making donations to the EFCC adding that such a situation could hamper theanti-graft war.

The Senate also called for a review of the contract details of the EFCC Headquarter building, which is running into N26 billion against the initial N18.8 billion initial contract sum by Julius berger.

Senator Melaye said that though the contract was initially awarded at the sum of N18.8 billion, it was later increased to N24 billion, while another request for N2 billion for the power plant and sewage is alsobeing made.

Chairman of the Committee, Senator Chukwuka Utazi also said that the contract was signed contrary to the advice of the Bureau of Public Procurement.

He stated further that going by the developments on the building contract, the Committee would have to invite Julius Berger to appear before it alongside the consultant that advised the EFCC to go against BPP’s advice.
