FEC approves N33bn contracts (More opportunities to steal)
Latest Politics Wednesday, September 14th, 2011THE meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), on Wednesday, approved the award of contracts worth about N33billion in different sectors of the economy including petroleum, water resources, road infrastructure, erosion control as well as Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
Minster of Information, Labaran Maku, who briefed state house correspondents after the meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan, said the council also approved ratification of Nigeria’s accession to the convention relating to the Status of Statelessness Persons and the Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness.
He said council approved the variation order for the upgrading of the hydropower components of the ongoing construction of Kashimbila Gamovo Multipurpose Dam in Taraba State in the sum of N17, 693, 609, 333, 15, with 36 months as completion period.
This, he said, was in line with government’s policy of optimising hydropower generation adding that it would serve the power needs of a large part of Benue and Taraba states and contribute to national development.
The council also approved remediation of sludge pits in Kaduna Refinery and petroleum company dump sites and the improvement of the lives of impacted communities in the sum of N1, 811 billion.
Under the ICT, FEC approved a memo by the Minister of Communication Technology, Mrs Omobola Johnson, for the award of contracts for the deployment of 100 classmate personal computers and accessories for schools for teaching purposes at the cost of about N6.4billion.
