FG commended on moves to dialogue with Boko Haram leaders
Boko Haram, Headlines Friday, July 15th, 2011The Federal Government has been commended for adopting a holistic, mature and well informed approach to the Boko Haram saga.
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), in a statement signed by its director, Dr Is-haq Akintola, in Ibadan, on Wednesday, described the decision of the government’s readiness to dialogue with the group as a welcome development.
According to the group, the immediate past Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, who is the current Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Captain Caleb Omoniyi Olubolade (retd), had in a statement, expressed government’s readiness to dialogue with all aggrieved parties in order to ensure enduring peace and security.
“True to its commitment to non-violence, the group reaffirmed the condemnation of violent attacks carried out by any group, including Boko Haram, to express grievances.
“It also welcomes the statement credited to the Secretary to the Federal Government, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, urging the security agencies and the Nigerian Army to embrace dialogue as a tool for enhancing national security.
“This statement is pregnant with far-reaching vision, constructive mission and unparalleled patriotism,” the group said.
MURIC charged government to discountenance inciting statements reportedly coming from Western countries in which they asked the Nigerian government to reject dialogue with Boko Haram, saying that Nigeria must not allow itself to be deceived by those whose targets were the destabilisation of African states
