FIRS boss, Omoigui-Okauru, steps down
Headlines Friday, April 6th, 2012Following alleged controversy over tenure renewal, chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui-Okauru, has stepped down from office. Omoigui-Okauru’s sudden exit is said to be contrary to the FIRS Act 2007. Going by the Act, Omoigui-Okauru would have vacated office on May 3, 2013, based on her appointment by the late President Umaru Yar’Adua for four years from June 2009.
Her appointment was confirmed by the Senate Finance Comit was gathered that the development might not be unconnected with alleged plans by President Goodluck Jonathan to dissolve the boards of federal parastatals later in April, to compensate foot soldiers who worked for his electoral victory.
Meanwhile, the presidency has appointed the co-ordinating director, Support Services Group, Alhaji Kabir M. Mashi as the Ag. Chairman of the FIRS.wp_posts
