Freedom party adopts Jonathan as presidential candidate

The Freedom Party of Nigeria (FPN) has adopted President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate.

Chief Frank Ohwofa, the National Chairman, who made the disclosure in Abuja on Sunday, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the party believed in Jonathan’s style of leadership.

He added that the presidents short stay in office had rekindled the hope of Nigerians for good governance.

“We have decided to adopt Jonathan because we believe in his credentials and leadership qualities.

“Within the shortest period in office, he has changed the leadership profile of our nation and has rekindled our hope for good governance,” he added.

The national chairman, however, expressed dismay over what he called the “high handedness of INEC on the entire electoral process”, saying that even voter registration which the National Assembly had opted for a two- week extension was reduced to a week.

According to him, with this one week extension many Nigerians still failed to register.

He claimed that most of the parties would have met the deadline, but were asked to get accreditation even as they were not informed prior to the day of submission.

Ohwofa said his party fielded candidates for all elective positions except that of the president, but threatened to take INEC to court for being responsible for the party’s inability to submit its list of candidates even as his party met the deadline.

“We have met the deadline for the submission of list of candidates; it is INEC that made things difficult for parties.

“There is no act that says parties must do accreditation before they will submit their lists,” he said.

According to him, “we are law abiding citizens so we are approaching the court to file our case”. (NAN)wp_posts
