GOOGLE and other stakeholders are planning how to make Africa to fully tap the potential that the Internet holds for the continent.

Consequently, Google will be delivering a keynote address at “Mobile Web West Africa,” a leading industry event, which will take place from February 2 to 3, 2011 at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.   

“Mobile Web West Africa” is the third in a series of events across Africa, which focuses on the mobile ecosystem and harnessing the potential of the Internet and applications on mobile devices.    Jared Cohen, Director of Google Ideas, will present the keynote address on the second day of the event, whilst several other key representatives from Google will also attend, including business and product leaders from Africa, Europe & the USA.  

“Mobile Web Africa” will be opened by the President of ATCON, Titi Omo-Ettu.  Lola Masha of Google Nigeria said: “Google’s mission in Africa is to make the Internet an integral part of everyday life in Africa and strengthen the Internet ecosystem.  This includes increasing the relevance and usefulness of the Internet, eliminating access barriers for potential users, and developing products that are meaningful for African countries. We have been holding a series of interactive forums and tech days, as well as participating in industry events across Africa this year – including the Mobile Web series – to promote innovation and business in the region.”??“Mobile Web West Africa” will give attendees the opportunity to gain and exchange knowledge about harnessing the potential of the mobile Internet and applications on mobile devices in Africa.  

The “Mobile Web in Africa” series of events is firmly established as the industry’s most progressive and interactive mobile-focused events, bringing together all the major stakeholders. Other key contributors for “Mobile Web West Africa” include Lola Masha (Google), ‘Gbenga Sesan (Paradigm Initiative Nigeria), Yomi Adegboye (MobilityNigeria.com), Obi Asika (Storm 360), Russell Southwood (Balancing Act), Alex Meisl (Sponge) and Kenneth Omeruo (TechTrends Nigeria).
