Habib Jega returned as Kebbi Speaker

The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Mr. Habib Musa Jega has been unanimously returned by the newly elected members of the House along with his deputy, Muhammad Garba Bena for another four-year term at the inauguration of the new House in Birnin Kebbi.

The return of Jega as Speaker came as a huge surprise to members of the public as speculations were rife that Alhaji Muhammad Yakub, popularly known as Rilisco, a new comer to the House representing Birnin Kebbi South was favoured to emerge as the Speaker.
A visibly elated Jega in his address to the House reminded his colleagues of the high expectations of the people and the confidence placed on them as well as the challenges ahead of them, pointing out that if they were to succeed, they would have to restrict themselves to their constitutional roles.

He therefore urged new members to familiarize themselves with legislative procedures and processes in order to collectively achieve success in the enormous task of legislation ahead of them. He added that they should observe and respect the rules and regulations to guide their conduct and make laws that would enhance peace, progress and prosperity for the well-being of the state. The Speaker described the Kebbi State House of Assembly as one of the most peaceful and orderly Assemblies in the country because of the cordial relationship it had maintained over the years with the Executive and Judicial arms of government which he said has been a great source of inspiration, and that the new House would try as much as possible to keep that up.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Shehu Usman Randali commended members of the defunct House whose conduct, capacity and enthusiasm for common good of all, according to him, had made the state proud. He stated that the defunct Assembly was the most peaceful, stable and productive which was evidenced by the number of bills that were treated and passed into law. He added that motions, executive appointments, special requests were also deliberated upon and passed, and resolutions significantly assisted the government of governor Saidu Usman Nasamu Dakingari in achieving his programmes.

While congratulating the new members for making it to the House, the Clerk said, each and every one the sessions brings new hopes, aspirations and expectations from the legislature that reflects directly the choice of the electorates by whose mandate, freely given in a keenly contested in every constituency the House exists. In another development, the Kebbi State Government has dissolved the state Executive Council along with all Special Advisers and the 750 Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants.

The Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Khalil Aliyu who announced the dissolution while thanking the out-going officers for the time spent working for the people of the state and wishing them well in their future endeavours directed them to hand all government properties in their possession to the their Permanent Secretaries or the accounting officers in their offices as the case may be.
