A man, much admired for lovingly nursing his ailing mother, hangs himself at their backyard

EVERYONE in the area knew Tunbosun Egbedokun, 32, as an affable, kind-hearted young man.

For quite sometime, he had been looking after their ailing mother, who was suffering from stroke for which he had earned praises from other relations as well as people in the neighbourhood.

However, he had begun to complain that things were not getting better, which of course, was not strange in the light of his circumstances.

Yet, about 11.00a.m. on Wednesday, when his mother was lying inside the house and his sister at the frontage washing clothes, Tunbosun went to their backyard and hanged himself.

His sister, Mrs. Bilikisu Olatunji, whose eyes were red with weeping, told The Guardian: “Tunbosun woke up in the morning at about 8.00 a.m. and went out to buy food while I was washing clothes outside.

“I did not suspect that he had this kind of idea on his mind because I never heard that he had any misunderstanding with anybody or was he in any business relationship that I know of.

“He did not confide in me of any worries or difficulties to warrant this kind of thing.”

She said she could have stopped him from nursing the idea of committing suicide if she had been aware such thoughts were on his mind.

“Tunbosun was the one taking care of our sick mother. In fact, after washing clothes, I went into the room not knowing that Tunbosun had committed suicide.”

One of his close friends, who sought anonymity, said the deceased, before now, had been complaining of the deteriorating state of his mother’s health and how tired he was of the whole situation.

Speaking further, he said: “I went to Aja on Tuesday and when I came back, he asked me where I went to and I told him. He later asked me to borrow him my hammer but I told him that I was going to make use of it.”

“This morning, I saw him at about 8.00a.m. briefly, and a few hours later, saw his sister crying.

“At first, I thought it was the old woman that died but she said Tunbosun had committed suicide.”

A woman also told The Guardian Tunbosun was an active member of the Cherubim and Seraphim at Odo Eran, along Ijesha Road and would be missed for his kindness and active participation in community activities.

It was also learnt that policemen from Itire cut the rope from which the lifeless body was dangling.wp_posts
