All People Grand Alliance (APGA), Headlines, Party Politics Friday, March 8th, 2013 The executives of the Canadian chapter of the All Progressive Grand Alliance Party (APGA) met with one of its chieftains Senator Annie Okonkwo, who is also a key player in the ongoing merger to form All Progressive Congress (APC). The meeting was held a few days ago in Toronto, Canada. In attendance were: Comrade Elas Chinenye Abone, National Chairman; Comrade Charles-Bruno Okpuruka, National Deputy Chairman; Comrade Raymond Afolabi, National Secretary and Comrade Hilary Okeke, National Financial Secretary. The group discussed the general state of Nigerian politics and economics. Important issues were raised such as: The state of rising poverty amongst the vast majority in the Nigerian population; the future of APGA and the upcoming governorship election in Anambra state. Strategies to correct most of the socioeconomic ills arising from bad leadership at the centre were also discussed.
One of the major questions that APGA Canada had for the senator was for him to enlighten the chapter more about the merger situation. Okonkwo said that APGA is involved in the merger talks and had the blessing of the leaders of the party and a great direction for APGA, and APC a bigger platform that creates more diverse representation of electorates from all parts of the country. Okonkwo said that APC will install a progressive administration that will rescue the country from total anarchy, halt the corrupt and incompetent PDP administration at the centre. He stated “it has become very important and urgent to salvage the country from the collapse of infrastructure, the rising profile of unemployment, claws of insecurity and the continuous drifting of the country to one party state”. He added that the merger became necessary to offer Nigerians hope and peace. Also, Senator Okonkwo mentioned that APC is a political party committed to the principles of internal democracy, focused on serious issues of concern to our people, determined to bring corruption and insecurity to an end. He therefore called on all Progressives across the nation to close ranks and take back the nation from the PDP through responsible commitment to participatory democracy in the coming electioneering season.
He further commended APGA Canada leadership for each selfless effort towards entrenching Nigeria’s democracy albeit from the Diasporas. He pledged to remain supportive of APGA Canada notwithstanding the current alignment and re-alignments that are on-going in the polity.
The meeting turned out to be epochal and unraveling in view of the trends within the APGA family. Other APGA Canada members who were absent in the meeting includes: Comrade Kenneth Ilechukwu, National Publicity Secretary; Comrade Chisom Okafor, National Coordinator Strategies, Planning and media; Comrade John Ukelegharanya, National Treasurer; Comrade Adebayo Samuel Siwoku, National Youth Leader and Comrade Jude Chigbo, National Welfare Officer.
In another development, the National Working Committee of APGA Canada after a sessional meeting concluded that it was time they reached out to the warring factions within the party to enjoin them to sheath their swords for the greater good of the party and the South East region.
Meanwhile, in regards to various litigations prevalent in the party, APGA Canada calls on all the stakeholders within APGA to renounce those court cases and return the party to the status quo ante under the leadership of National Chairman Chief Sir Victor Umeh pending a peaceful resolution of the crisis which must be engineered internally.
