Jonathan can’t win S/West

Former Senate Deputy President and a chieftain of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Mamman Danmusa, has said President Goodluck Jonathan would be walking the tight rope if he is really serious about capturing the South-West in the April polls by all means.

Danmusa, who is also Second Republic speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, told Daily Sun in Katsina that the President could only indulge in such a big gamble because “I think he (Jonathan) was very young when the problem in the South-West snowballed into a very, very serious political problem for Nigeria and the weti e (spontaneous burning of houses), which led to the coup of January 15, 1966.” Excerpts:
Jonathan’s South-West “rascals” comment.

It is very unfortunate really for these words to come from Jonathan. He is behaving like he is not the President of Nigeria. I will like to remind him that the West as it is known, throughout the history of Nigeria to date, the only time when people who have no grassroots support were able to capture it was in 2003 when Obasanjo lured the Alliance for Democracy (AD) governors to support him so that he could have a reflection that he was also loved by his people.

The South-West popular governments are giving their people what they want, that is free education, free health services. They are really following the footsteps of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo. If he wants civil war, he should try to rig in the South-West. Whatever he does, will not secure victory for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West. He (Jonathan) was very young when the problem in the South-West snowballed into a very serious political problem for Nigeria. The we ti e which led to the coup of January 15, 1966. So, as President, it is in his own interest not to try to be funny this time around.

The people he is referring to as “rascals” are leaders in their own rights. They are giving their people what they want and their people believe in them. Take for example Lagos State, with Fashola. People now believe that when you have responsible leadership, it is possible really to change the society. He has changed Lagos.

Segun Mimiko (Ondo), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti) and others in Osun and Edo states are really executing popular policies which are giving hope to the people. I advise him (Jonathan) that he should ask Chief Richard Akinjide (SAN), he is still alive. He was NPC minister; he was minister of education when this problem started. He should ask Akinjide what were the consequences (of capturing South-West) before he plunges this country into another chaos.

Some politicians are accusing INEC of producing bogus list.
No, those who are accusing INEC of producing bogus list are the problem of Nigeria. INEC is performing its constitutional duties but these people (blaming INEC) are the problem in their own parties. INEC, by doing what it is doing now, has given confidence to Nigerians that this time around, it would not be used by even the government in power.

For example, there was an attempt by the PDP to do a re-run in Kogi, Kano and other states. But INEC said the deadline was January 15, so if the party went ahead to hold the re-run, INEC would not accept it. So, how can you blame INEC?
With the raging controversy in Kano, Katsina and Kaduna states over CPC governorship candidates, do you think General Muhammadu Buhari will have a formidable team or party to win April polls?
We need prayers, we need prayers. We need prayers.

Can the ACN/CPC alliance still be consummated?

That is my prayer because without that, I will have reservations. This is my prayer: May all those who knowingly and unknowingly frustrated this alliance have a rethink to allow Nigerians to have a new lease of life. If they refuse and if the PDP goes ahead to do anything, they should know that the wind of change is blowing not only in the Arab countries but it will also blow across Africa. There are sufferings, there is so much poverty, there is so much disillusion.

Let us hope that those who are only after their personal interests will see reason that if Nigeria faces fire, they too will be consumed. Let the alliance between CPC and ACN come into reality. Let us pray, with Allah nothing is impossible, that the Almighty Allah in His mercy to help us to have this alliance, otherwise I don’t know.
