Kanu, Rufai get NFF roles

The Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday announced the appointment of former Super Eagles skipper Nwankwo Kanu as Ambassador of Nigerian football.
The 35-year-old, who was present at the official announcement of an international friendly match between Nigeria and Argentina in Lagos on Wednesday, is the most decorated Nigerian football player.
“We made the decision in the interest of Nigerian football. Kanu surely deserves it, and we are very happy that he has accepted,” the NFF President, Aminu Maigari, said.
The Portsmouth forward also played at three FIFA World Cup finals for Nigeria – 1998, 2002 and 2010 – and led the U-23 team to Africa’s first football gold at the Atlanta’96 Olympics.
Kanu would be involved in inspirational duties for the national teams and advise the NFF on matters relating to the game.
Another former international Peter Rufai was appointed as Team Coordinator of the U-23 team.
Rufai was in goal when Nigeria won the Nations Cup in 1994 in Tunisia. He represented the country at the 1994 and 1998 World Cup finals.
KICKOFF’s Colin Udoh was appointed the new Media Officer of the Eagles, replacing former goalkeeper Peterside Idah.
