Keshi: No plan to dump Eagles

Stephen Keshi has said that he had no intention to resign his appointment as the head coach of the Super Eagles.

In a statement by his Special Assistant, Emmanuel Ado, the former Togo national team coach said that at no time had he planned to dump the team that won the last Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa for his country.

According to the statement, Keshi was enjoying the support of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Aminu Maigari.

“Football-loving Nigerians are still behind us and I have no intention whatsoever to resign my job with the federation.” A national newspaper, not The Sun, had reported that Keshi might dump Eagles.

“That media reports was the work of persons who “enjoy and profit” from crisis. The intention of these “merchants of lies” is to continue to cause disaffection between the federation and I.”

Keshi said: “The NFF president remains the father of the team and he has been a partner in progress. What we have achieved so far is due to his support. We appreciate this huge support and we will continue to count on him.

“That Nigeria won the Africa Cup of Nations is now history. The urgent task at hand is to qualify the country for the 2014 World Cup billed for Brazil,” he said.
