Leave Soku oil wells alone, David-West tells Jonathan
Latest Politics, Rivers, State News Friday, January 17th, 2014From TONY JOHN, Port Harcourt
A former Minister of Petroleum, Professor Tam David-West, has advised President Goodluck Jonathan to lose his grip on the Soku oil wells in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State. Professor David West gave the advice yesterday, when he led a delegation of royal fathers, chiefs, community leaders from Oceania communities, comprising Idama, Soku, Abisse, Kula and Elem-Sangama, in the Akuku-Toru LGA, to the state Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, at the Government House, Port Harcourt.
“We are talking about 41 oil wells. One oil well is in billions. Forty-one oil wells; so, we owe His Excellency, Amaechi, a lot of gratitude. It is left for us, Kalabari sons and daughters to support all those who are fighting our course and fight to stop this nonsense. I have no apology to it. Let me say it, they will never succeed. Kalabari kingdom will never be divided.
“Over the years, our ancestors had fought to maintain the integrity of Kalabari kingdom. Anybody that is trying to dismantle it no matter where he is coming from will never succeed. Our ancestors fought with carnal gods, this time there are other elements to fight you. You will not succeed. Truth has only one version, while false has many versions.
Prof. David-West stated that he had no problem with President Goodluck Jonathan, but he dislikes his pattern of administration.
“Let me say it clear that I have no problem with President Goodluck Jonathan. But, I have everything against his pattern of administration and divide-and-rule system. Let him leave the Kalabari people alone.”
He pointed out when the map showing the position of Soku was changed severally, it was an indication that something was wrong, stating that some Kalabari chiefs were secretly met to sign documents to conceal Soku territory to Bayelsa State.
“They can sign the documents 100 times; they cannot change what belongs to Kalabari. Soku oil wells are fantastic. Anyone, even if you are not from Soku, who reads about it, would weep.”
Prof David-West said the communities were not interested in boundary adjustment, emphasising that they should go back to the colonial time, because other versions of the map were corrupt.
“Let me say right away, that, if I must die while fighting the Kalabari cause, it is a good death. Your Excellency, I want to once again, use this occasion to pledge my loyalty. If you are not doing well, I tell you, you are not doing well. If you are doing well, I tell you, you are doing well. I have said it before; whoever is saying Governor Amaechi has not done well, is blind. I want to use this occasion to say my loyalty is not nairatized. There is no naira attached to my loyalty.
“I will only say my loyalty is not quantified. You are either loyal or not loyal. I want to say it again, that His Excellency must have learnt his lesson; that, there are a lot of chameleons around you, who have shown themselves. They must go if you must survive.
“I thank you, particularly, for what you have been doing for the Kalabari Kingdom. Unfortunately, some of our brothers, some of our leaders don’t realise this. I know what you have gone through and what you are going through. Why should an Ikwerre governor be sacrificed for saying don’t take part of Kalabari Kingdom to another state? Kalabari should rally round such a person and carry him high.”
He, however, appealed to Governor Amaechi to ensure that the Oceania communities felt the dividends of his administration and assured him of their unalloyed support.
