Letter war: Al-Mustapha carpets Obasanjo (You can now ‘carpet’ people)
Latest Politics Monday, December 30th, 2013Ex-CSO: His letter fictitious
From DESMOND MGBOH, Kano
Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, has described as fictitious the insinuation of former President Olusegun Obasanjo in his recent letter to President Goodluck Jonathan.
The former president wrote that Jonathan has allegedly hired 1,000 snipers to haunt down some perceived enemies.
“I found it utterly a laughable thing. I found the allegations most unfortunate, speculative and a depiction of somebody else’s imagination. I have responded to his letter and my response to his letter, stands” Major hamza Al-Mustapha said yesterday.
In the recent letter, Obasanjo had subtly faulted Al-Mustapha’s acquittal at the Court of Appeal in Lagos, suggesting the possibility of an alleged underhand dealing in his discharge, besides making other indirect negative references against the former CSO.
But in Kano yesterday, Major Al-Mustapha, who spoke to reporters at the end of his thank –you visit to Emir Ado Bayero and some other prominent elders and Islamic scholars in the state, insisted that the contents of Obasanjo’s letter were most unfortunate.
Responding to questions in the letter, after also visiting Alhaji Aminu mai Turare ( Zanna Kano) and Mallam Tijjani Bala Kalarawi, Major Al Mustapha stated: “I have two answers. It (the letter) is most unfortunate.
“ I have gone through many persecutions that are well-scripted, with witnesses bought and induced over the years, with so many adjournments that are unwarranted, with so many cases being stopped, only for it to start all over again. I have appeared before many justices.
“The content of the judgment that was given at the Court of Appeal speaks for itself. These are well-known justices with backgrounds that are well known. Today, they have looked at the persecution (against me) and they know that it is contradictory to the provisions of the law in Nigeria and anywhere in the world”.
Speaking on his career in the Nigerian Army following his acquittal , Al-Mustapha said,“If you look at the Military Act or the Armed Forces decree, you will see that when there is a case in court, everything would hold until there is the total determination of the matter in court. And that is what we are waiting for because there is an appeal pending. Once that is through, then, the provisions of these relevant laws would come to effect.
The former CSO said he has so far not decided on whether to join politics, noting that so far, he is devoted to partnering some of the associations that invited him to work with them for the good of humanity.
Al-Mustapha equally revealed that there is no crack whatsoever in his immediate family, contrary to some claims. He commended his younger brother, Alhaji Hadi Al Mustapha for his sacrifices in the course of his trials and persecution. He recalled that his younger brother was detained nine times for his sake.
He revealed that the absence of his younger brother during the visit was simply because he sent him to some of their aged relatives, insisting that the Al-Mustapha family had never been united and as together as they are today.
