Minister accused of plotting against Amaechi

AS the crisis in the Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party deepens, the former chairman of the party, Mr. Godspower Ake, has accused the Minister of State for Education, Mr. Nyeso Wike, of plotting to destroy Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s political structure.

Ake, who spoke on Friday when some members of the All Local Government of Nigeria in the state paid him a solidarity visit, explained that the minister was not alone in the plot to obliterate Amaechi’s political structure.

The embattled party leader noted that the destruction plot by Wike; a former Chief of Staff and Director General of Amaechi’s campaign organisation, was targeted at the state government and not the PDP in the state.

Expressing gratitude to the local government chairmen that paid him a solidarity visit, Ake urged party supporters to remain calm and eschew violence.

“I am so elated by the visit. What the detractors are doing is best known to them. It is disheartening for people to build a house and turn round to destroy it.

“Wike is however not alone in the fight against Amaechi.

“There are others at the top conspiring to destroy Amaechi’s structure. The party is actually not the target but the Rivers State Government,” Ake stressed.

He described the Abuja Court ruling that ousted his party exco as ‘unfortunate.’

Decrying the inauguration of the new party exco in Abuja, Ake argued that the state governor had always sworn in executive members of the party.

“The primaries that produced the councillors and local government chairmen in Rivers State, which were conducted by our exco was supervised by people from Abuja. Unfortunately, they said our election is null and void.

“The judgment was against the chairman and secretary of the party in Rivers State despite the fact that the entire exco was sworn in at Abuja. The swearing in of an exco in Abuja is wrong.

“It has always been the responsibility of the governor. I am not a violent man and I urge PDP supporters in the state to remain calm,” Ake said.

The minister however denied any plot to destroy any political structure and maintained that politics was not a one-man business.

Wike described the statement ascribed to the former party chairman as ‘unfortunate,’ saying, “As an elder statesman, it is surprising that such a statement is coming from him (Ake).

“Maybe, he (Ake) is still angry that the court has removed him as the chairman. But when he cools down, he will realise that what he is saying is not correct.”
